FAQs

  • In this 3.5 hour workshop, you will learn how to be aware of and manage many of the common issues that couples experience throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting.

The content of the workshop was specifically designed to prepare couples to handle many of the issues I see as a couples therapist working with couples in the perinatal period, and is strongly based in research.

Topics include resentment, carrying the mental load, sex and intimacy, and concrete communication techniques. The workshop is broken up into sections of learning, engaging in conversations and activities with your partner, and there will be a Q&A session at the end.

  • Couple who have attended the workshop have said it is “well-paced with relevant content”, and especially enjoyed “the breakout sessions with prompts and check ins”, “having the space to practice talking about these things”, and “hearing your same problems reiterated by other couples”.

  • No. While the workshop is facilitated by a couples therapist, the workshop is educational and should not be considered couples therapy.

The purpose of the workshop is to give you skills you can use at home with your partner. While we may do some group sharing to learn from each other, this is also not group therapy, and you are not required to share anything with the group if you don’t feel comfortable.

If you’d like more information about ongoing couples or individual therapy, please contact me.

  • The workshop will be held at the Colorado Birth & Wellness Lowry location. It is open to couples who are expecting, adopting, and parenting children under the age of 5.

First time parents as well as veteran parents can attend, there is something for everyone to learn!

For the best experience, partners should attend the workshop together. Babies in arms are welcome to join, but it is encouraged to find care for your baby so you can fully engage in the workshop. There is a private nursing space available.

  • The investment for the workshop is $175 per couple. The price of the workshop includes activity pages to complete during the workshop and a list of resources to take home.

Workshops are a cost-effective way to gain a lot of skills and tools you would learn in couples therapy. The content we will cover would take multiple sessions to get through in a weekly therapy format.

  • Hi! My name is Laurel Johnson, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am certified in perinatal mental health, and work with individuals and couples both within and outside of the perinatal time period.

I have worked with many individuals and couples navigating the complexity of relationships before and after having a baby, and I created this workshop to help people manage the issues I see most frequently in my therapy office.

Previous to being in private practice, I spent 4 years working at MotherWise, where I was trained in PREP relationship education and facilitated workshops on healthy relationships and communication techniques.
